A native of Britain, Dr. Emma Jean Patterson is one of the leading bariatric surgeons in the United States. After completing her medical and surgical training in Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, she completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 1999. It was during this time that she developed a passion for bariatric surgery.

Today, she is a recognized leader in laparoscopic bariatric surgery and has performed more than 2,000 laparoscopic weight loss surgery procedures. Dr. Patterson was the first surgeon in the Northwest to perform a laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding with the Lap-Band® and also the first to perform an endoscopic StomaphyX™ gastric bypass revision.

In addition, Dr. Patterson is the principal researcher on many studies of investigational devices, and has trained hundreds of surgeons around the world in the techniques of laparoscopic bariatric surgery. she has also published more than 100 journal articles, abstracts and book chapters.
