It’s hard to fathom that one third of adults in the U.S. are obese. For these millions of Americans, being severely overweight is not a matter of vanity, but of life and death. Not surprisingly, the popularity of bariatric surgery has skyrocketed in recent years. This year alone, more than 200,000 people will undergo weight loss surgery (WLS). But, the surgery only addresses the physical component of obesity, which is just one symptom of extreme addictive behavior. Following WLS, many patients continue to struggle with the emotional and psychological issues that drove them to overeat.
The WLS Channel was created to offer support, coaching and guidance to members of the weight loss surgery community via online video, 24 hours a day. The channel launched on November 1, 2008, and new programs will be added every week. Our goal is to provide information and encouragement to anyone who is considering bariatric surgery, as well as post-op patients and their family, friends and caregivers.
Of course, even after our launch, we will continue to tweak parts of the site design and navigation. We would love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve and expand on the new network, and we invite you to contact us at info [at] wlschannel [dot] com with your ideas and suggestions. In the meantime, we hope you will join us in this new and exciting endeavor to make a positive impact in the lives of millions of Americans!
