Fashion and Motivational Expert Laura Preston Joins Weight Loss Surgery Channel Faculty
Cosmetics exec turned lifestyle advisor to host “The Big Do-Over”
DALLAS, Texas (February 18, 2009) — Lifestyle guru, former cosmetics executive, and motivational speaker Laura Preston has joined the faculty of the Weight Loss Surgery Channel and will host a new fashion and lifestyle show to debut this spring.
The new show is The Big Do-Over, an upbeat program featuring fresh advice on beauty, fashion, fitness and living well after weight loss surgery. It’s not about getting a make-over; that’s just touching up what you already have. It’s about making the most of your second chance at living, with step-by-step instructions that will keep you looking and feeling your best. Preston offers viewers a show full of practical and fun advice on how to create a new road map for themselves, and embrace life as if they had never been seriously overweight at all.
“I have always been the tall big girl. My entire life I have felt that 6’1″ never blends into a crowd, especially at my highest weight,” says Preston, whose blonde mane and bright blue eyes only make her stand out more. “But, I always took pride in myself and my appearance. There is nothing a little lipstick can’t fix. My philosophy is, if you look in the mirror today and you don’t like the person looking back at you, do something about it. If you don’t like the results of the lifestyle you are living, you can change it.”
Adds Preston, “I am ecstatic to be part of the Weight Loss Surgery Channel. This amazing team is committed to educating viewers on all facets of life before and after weight loss surgery, and it is an honor to be able to share my background, resources and lifestyle finds with their audience.”
Preston battled her weight her entire life, repeatedly gaining and losing hundreds of pounds during her climb to the top levels of New York’s cosmetics and fashion industry. By 2005, Laura had become vice president of sales for a major cosmetics company — and was tipping the scales at 365 pounds. She knew she had to change her way of life, not just for her career, but her survival. After a gastric bypass that March, she dropped more than 165 pounds, and also discovered a different way of living. Today, Preston enjoys her new career as a motivational speaker and as an active supporter of the WLS community.
“We are thrilled to have Laura Preston as a member of our team,” says Craig Thompson, president and founder of the Weight Loss Surgery Channel. “So many women struggle to find their new identity and a sense of personal style after weight loss surgery, whether it’s gastric bypass or LAP-BAND® surgery. Laura’s been there, and by combining her razor-sharp fashion sense with her personal knowledge of what our viewers are going through, she’s put together a show that is going to have people tuning in and feeling great.”
