The Fight Against Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity is a serious problem worldwide. Take the UK for example: Government statistics say that around 31% of school-age children in England are overweight or obese, and predict that 90% will be overweight or obese by 2050. So, what’s to be done? Dame Deirdre Hutton, the soon-to-be ex-chair of the UK’s Food Standards Agency has an answer — one that is causing a lot of controversy across the pond. Get the details in this report from WLS News.

Research shows that women who suffer from obesity have higher rates of cancer, including breast cancer. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with breast cancer, be sure to watch tomorrow’s episode of Plastic Surgery Talk on our sister network, The Plastic Surgery Channel. The show features Rebecca Larson, a 32-year-old breast cancer survivor who underwent reconstructive surgery after a double mastectomy, and Dr. Louis Bucky, MD, FACS, a board certified plastic surgeon who performs more than 400 breast surgeries each year. Dr. Bucky explains the factors that determine whether a woman is a candidate for reconstructive surgery, and how breast cancer patients can make sure they are fully informed about their treatment options.

Researchers Testing Weight Loss Surgery in a Pill

Imagine a pill that does everything that weight loss surgery does–with no bad side effects. Sounds hard to believe, right? It’s true–a team of biochemists have discovered a synthetic hormone that can dramatically reduce body fat. Question is, when will the miracle pill be available? We’ve got the details in this report from WLS News.

Research shows that women who suffer from obesity have higher rates of cancer, including breast cancer. The good news is that breast cancer can be treated if caught early. In fact, mortality rates decreased by 1.8% each year between 1998 and 2005. But sadly, 70% of women who undergo breast cancer treatment are not fully informed about their options for reconstructive surgery, according to a recent report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with breast cancer, be sure to watch the upcoming episode of Plastic Surgery Talk on our sister network, The Plastic Surgery Channel.
