LAP-BAND® SUCCESS: TRANSCRIPTION

DR. RACHEL KEILIN (RK): I would have to say that the people who are most successful with the Lap-Band are people who start the journey with a certain commitment. I guess one of the more forceful ways I like to think of it is, “You’ve tried it your way, now you’ve got to try it my way.” [laughs]

DR. RON HEKIER (RH): Sometimes people want to know what characteristics are there, that would make a person unsuccessful with the Lap-Band. I think we need to recognize the unhealthy lifestyles that have got us to that point, and the person that doesn’t recognize the unhealthy lifestyles will not realize the goals that they have set for themselves with the Lap-Band.

RK: It’s important in the long run to really change how you view food — it’s important to change the behaviors, the situations that you put yourself in. The people who do well are the ones who are ready to start with that commitment.

RH: I think the things that lead to success with the Lap-Band are a recognition that you’re going to have to change many habits that you have, you’re going to have to change the way you eat, you’re going to have to change the food that you eat, and you’re going to have to change the amount of time that you spend eating. Additionally, you’re going to have to introduce other aspects of a healthy lifestyle, including exercise as well.
