WLS Patients to Gather for Two-Day Conference

TX Weight Loss Surgery SummitWeight loss surgery patients from across the Lone Star State will have a chance to meet with dozens of bariatric surgeons and allied health professionals later this month at the 2009 Texas Weight Loss Surgery Summit.

The two-day educational conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas, on January 23rd and 24th. We will have a camera crew from the Weight Loss Surgery Channel at the event, and Craig and Leslie Thompson will be taping interviews with doctors and patients for an upcoming report on WLS News. We’re also looking for interesting people to feature on other Weight Loss Surgery Channel programs, so be sure to stop by the booth and introduce yourself!

On Saturday, guests can choose from a full day of seminars and interactive workshops on a wide range of topics related to weight loss surgery, including post-operative support and counseling, nutrition advice, exercise myths, and finding fashions that fit after WLS.

Here are just a few of the confirmed speakers:

  • Dr. Ramiro “Sonny” Cavasos: Principles for Long Term Success after WLS
  • Dr. Adam Smith: Trouble Shooting Bands to Create Long Term Success
  • Dr. Erik Wilson: Revisional Weight Loss Surgery – What If Your Tool Is Broken?
  • Dr. Peter Fisher: Plastic Surgery Options after WLS
  • Jessie Parsons: Body Image and Relationships after WLS
  • Dr. Sean Connolly and Mary Ann Spears-Howell, Ph.D., LPC: The Mind Factor – Changing Habits and Emotions after Weight Loss Surgery

  • Mary Ambrose: Don’t Work Harder, Work Smarter – How Metabolic Testing Can Maximize Your Workout
  • Dr. Jacqueline Jacques: Make No Bones about It – Maintaining Good Bone Health after Weight Loss Surgery

Saturday’s line-up will feature a keynote speech by Dr. Garth Davis from TLC’s show Big Medicine and the event will wrap up with a Casino Night, where doctors and patients can mix and mingle.
