Research shows that weight loss may help those who have severe kidney disease.
A Cleveland medical team surveyed 13 studies of weight loss among patients with various illnesses. Some had undergone weight loss surgery, and some had lost weight through diet and exercise. The weight loss surgery patients showed not only a decrease in body mass index, but also a decrease in blood pressure and in symptoms that can lead to kidney failure.
The medical team said that weight loss seemed to be most beneficial for people with extreme cases of kidney disease. But, they said they needed more research to find out if weight loss helps patients who only have mild or moderate cases.
