Exercise Rates Up, But Americans Still Obese

Exercise rates are up, but the rate of obesity is staying the same, according to new government data.

More Americans are getting regular physical activity, but the increase in exercise rates has yet to have an impact on our nation’s obesity trend, according to a recent government report.

A survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that 34.7 percent of people claimed that they engage in regular physical activity in 2009, which is up from 31.9 percent the year before. Health experts urge adults to engage in about an hour of moderate exercise to keep weight off and to help prevent diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics also released figures surrounding the overall health of Americans in 2009. According to the data, the number of obese adults over the age of 20 has risen from 19.4 percent in 1997 to 28 percent in 2009. The number of adults over 18 who have diabetes also nearly doubled, from 5 percent in 1997 to 9 percent in 2009.

The CDC also found that over all, Americans believe they were in worse health in 2009 than in the year prior. More than 66 percent of survey respondents said they had excellent or very good health, but that number was down from 68.5 percent in 2008. Ironically, despite the general population’s continual trend of excess weight and obesity, only 2.4 percent of Americans said they had poor health.

“…people claimed that they engage in regular physical activity…”

Well, there is the problem right there. What people claim and what they actually do are two very different things.

Does anyone remember the pictures from Germany during Hitler’s reign? All the dead bodies were skin and bones. I’m always thinking, If something ever happens to our food supply “The Gulf full of oil”. Chubby people will live longer. I bet it’s the insurance companies pushing this crap. Pay us pay us pay us, then you’re dead and can’t collect. Look’s like Obama’s wife could lose 20-30 lbs. So STFU!
