Control Sugar, Hunger With Pistachios

pistachiosIn light of the American Heart Association advising people to lower their sugar intake, some researchers say eating pistachios could help curb hunger and reduce blood sugar levels.

A recent release by the American Heart Association recommended no more than 100 calories of added sugar per day for women, and 150 calories per day for men. However, the average American consumes more than double that amount.

This brings obvious links to obesity and type 2 diabetes. But researchers from the University of Toronto found that eating a handful of pistachios with foods that have a high glycemic index actually reduces high blood sugar, plus hormones that trigger hunger.

The American Heart Association advises a diet low in sugary foods. But if you’re ignoring that advice, eating pistachios may be one way of curbing the effects. Video plays below.
