Duodenal Switch is a type of weight loss surgery involving removal of a portion of the stomach, which remains attached to the duodenum (the upper part of the small intestine). The duodenum is then connected to the lower part of the small intestine, bypassing much of the small intestine. This procedure allows for normal food digestion while still limiting caloric intake, because it keeps the pyloric valve intact.
